Apparently some folks have been having failure to feed issues with HST rounds..
(info here and photos) http://www.xdtalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59045 Has to do with the hollow being so wide Anyone else heard of this? |

I just got a box of HST 45ACP's and I'm a little nervous to use them as a carry rounds now.

I would try and hand cycle the rounds in your gun to see if it feeds smoothly. My 5" Tactical XD feeds them smoothly and it really loves the rounds.
If your gun doesn't feed it reliably, send it back to S.A. for a tune up. Even though the XDs are great guns, many police departments and government agencies still stay away because there is not a track record established yet for reliability or durability on the newer designs. |

Update
I have hand cycled probably 100 rounds through the gun now and have had zero feed issues... it looks like my fears were unfounded |

many guns have had problems with the federal 45HST ammo for quite a while now. it is at no fault of federal... some guns just do not like the ammo.
i know the ammo broke a lot of kimber 1911s and had some issues with other guns. that article is written about an xd45 which is not a gun i would personally carry for self defense. some people love the xd45 and it won a lot of awards, but it is still a civilan gun. i dont know anyone in le who carries it on duty at this point. striker fire for self defense = glock imo. also keep in mind it is just one person who could have a number of other problems. just because it is posted on the internet does not make it true!! |

My local LEO and Sheriff dept carry the XD in 40 S&W.
They switched over from Glocks for the Sheriffs Dept, and Sig 226 for the Local PD. Our University police carry Glocks

Another update - I live fired a couple of mags of the HST though my XD over the weekend (finally) and it worked perfectly.
I'll add that even in the +P load it was completely well behaved in 45ACP Its my new carry round |

Sweet round! The +P load gives the 230 gr .45 round a bit more energy for extended range engagements.
