hey guys

if the front site post irritates me with the aimpoint - is it difficult to swap the front site on a barrel with a perm attached muzzle device?

Well it's not impossible to swap gas blocks without removing the flash hider, but it is major metal surgery and you'll need to replace with a 2-piece clamp on block such as the YHM flip up.

Basically you have cut the existing gas block off without cutting the barrel. A very steady hand with a dremel or angle grinder might do it, or more safely you might try it with a milling machine.

Altenatively, pull the barrel, do whatever you need to avoid all suggestion of "constructive intent", and de-pin your flash hider. Then you can use whatever gas block you want but will have to reattach the muzzle device permanently.

My vote is to lop off the A2 sight and get a rail mount. It'll look extra classy

or you could just space the Aimpoint up higher?

Well as long as you don't want a flip-up sight on your gas block, I think Einzelherz has the best idea. A 2 piece clamp on block probably wouldn't fit under your handguard of choice, anyway.

Of course, you'll still have to figure out what to do with the foreward handguard retainer.

Drilling out a pinned and welded muzzle brake isn't exactly the most fun task. I'd see if there's a way around having to change the sight.

'tis truth. But if you want to lose your fixed front sight there are basically 2 options: (A) remove the flash hider and slide the FSB off, or (2) convert your FSB into a low profile block. If I was going to keep that 14.5" pinned barrel, this is what I'd do:

Step 1: WECSOG the FSB.

Step 2:

Cover up your handiwork with a mid or rifle length free float rail that attaches to the stock barrel nut and delta ring assembly. A Daniel Defense Omega 9 would cover just past the gas block, or an Omega 12 would give you even more space.

Step 3: add a flip up rail mount front sight.

Step 4: shoot zombies.

at this point, i still need to order my Aimpoint T1 - to see if it is really an issue.

honestly - if the FSB is in my way, because of all the trouble to change it - i would probably just sell the dang upper, or build a lower for it and get a carry handle for it and then get another upper with the lowpro gas block

i am planning on a T1 on a Larue Tall mount - so i dont think it will be an issue, but you never know

just in case - i got another lower - from another local company AGP

all i can say is - this lower was a dream to build - the holes were the proper size after anodizing and just needed to be pressed in - no hammer or punch required!

so - now - if the FSB gets in the way of the T1 - just build another upper without a FSB!

honestly - im gonna do this anyway - kinda waiting for BCM or Spikes to get a 14.5 hammer forged barrel assembly in stock - thinkin with a daniel deffense lite rail bla bla bla

Nothing on the lower should require a hammer or punch (well some triggers.)

There are only two press-type fits on an AR pattern. The breech-barrel (technically optional) and the barrel-gas block interfaces. everything else should be a sliding fit.
